About this coffee

Our newest menu addition from Burundi sounds suspiciously like the chants in the background of “Circle Of Life,” and while we doubt Elton John will show up at your house while you’re brewing coffee in your PJ’s, one sip of Umurima Mikuba and we can guarantee you’ll be singing Hakuna Matata.

The easiest way to describe Umurima Mikuba (or “Umu” as we’ve affectionately nicknamed it), is to liken it to cola, minus the cloying sweetness and “sugar teeth” after-effects. Notes of spiciness are balanced out with syrupy sweetness and a sparkling acidity; if you try it iced, you’ll find it even has pleasingly subtle savory notes.

Our favorite aspect of this coffee is the sourcing of it through Long Miles Coffee, an American family of coffee producers living in Burundi and daily attempting to show the world what Burundi has to offer through coffee.

They invest in the lives of their farmers and community while simultaneously producing high quality coffees and emphasizing the relationship between roasters and producers. Brewing Recommendation

We suggest filter brewing the Umurima Mikuba in a Chemex or Kalita and think it would translate beautifully in a french press as well.
